Connected identification

A smart tag for every chapter.

A CiviPet Tag connects a pet's physical tag to its digital CiviPet profile. If the pet is found, anyone can scan the QR code with a phone—no app required—to see owner-approved safety details and make contact.

  • No app needed to scan
  • Owner-controlled
  • Moves with the pet

What is a CiviPet Tag?

A simple physical link to a living pet profile.

Each tag carries a unique QR code. Once connected in CiviPet, it points to the right pet profile while the current owner remains in control of what a finder can see.

  • Designed as a durable, laser-engraved stainless-steel tag.
  • Connects to one pet profile and can be managed by the verified account holder.
  • Shows only the safety and contact information the current owner chooses to share.

How it works

Help is only a scan away.

The finder gets a clear route to help. The owner keeps control of the profile.

1

Connect the tag

The owner securely links the tag's unique code to the correct pet profile in CiviPet.

2

Choose what is shown

The owner selects the public safety details and preferred contact option available to a finder.

3

A finder scans

A phone camera opens the pet's limited public profile. The finder does not need the CiviPet app.

4

Make contact

The finder uses the owner-approved contact route to help the pet get safely home.

Privacy by design

Useful in public. Controlled in private.

A CiviPet Tag is designed to help a finder act without exposing the private pet record or giving them control of it.

  • Scanning the tag does not sign someone into the owner's account.
  • The QR code is not a secret ownership credential and cannot transfer a pet profile.
  • Health records, documents and private memories stay behind the account login.
  • Public details can be reviewed and changed by the current verified owner.

Pet handover

The pet, profile and tag move together.

When a breeder hands a pet to its new family, the physical tag can travel with the pet while CiviPet completes the digital change of control separately and securely.

Breeder

Prepare the pet

The breeder creates or maintains the pet profile and connects its unique CiviPet Tag.

Invitation

Start handover

The breeder begins a secure transfer to the receiving owner. A tag scan alone cannot start or complete it.

New owner

Accept securely

The receiving owner signs in and accepts the invitation or one-time claim before control changes.

Connected future

Continue the story

The new owner controls the profile, public safety settings and linked tag from that point forward.

Important: handing over the metal tag does not itself transfer digital ownership. CiviPet only changes control after the receiving owner completes the secure acceptance flow.

One connected history

A new home without losing the beginning.

The new owner can continue the pet's record while legitimate breeder, litter and lineage connections remain part of its history.

  • The new owner takes control of tag settings and the ongoing pet profile.
  • Originating breeder and lineage information can remain connected as provenance.
  • The breeder does not keep access to the new owner's private records after handover.

Clear boundaries

What the tag does—and what it does not do.

The CiviPet Tag helps with

  • Connecting a physical tag to the correct digital pet profile.
  • Giving a finder quick access to owner-approved safety information.
  • Keeping tag control aligned with the pet's verified owner after handover.

It is not

  • A GPS tracker or a guarantee that a lost pet will be found.
  • Proof of legal ownership simply because someone scans or holds it.
  • A replacement for legally required microchipping, database registration or collar identification.

Common questions

A few useful answers.

Does a finder need the CiviPet app?

No. The tag is designed to open an owner-approved public safety profile through a standard phone camera and web browser.

Can somebody take ownership by scanning the tag?

No. Scanning is a public safety action, not an ownership action. Transfer requires a separate secure handover and acceptance process.

What if the owner changes the information?

The tag keeps pointing to the connected profile, so the current owner can update the information shared with finders without replacing the tag.

Is the CiviPet Tag available now?

CiviPet and the tag programme are coming soon. Pioneer Breeders will help us test the complete tag and handover experience with real workflows.

Help shape the handover experience

Breeders can test CiviPet Tags first.

Our Pioneer Breeder Programme is designed around genuine pet, litter, tag and owner-handover workflows.
