Pioneer Breeder Programme
Frequently asked questions.
The essential details about eligibility, the permanent free Pro benefit, breeder workflows, CiviPet Tags and ownership handovers.
What is the Pioneer Breeder Programme?
It is CiviPet’s application-based BETA programme for responsible breeders who will use the platform with genuine pets and litters, test practical workflows and help improve the service through feedback.
What do approved Pioneer Breeders receive?
Approved Pioneer Breeders receive a CiviPet Pro account with no monthly or annual subscription fee for the lifetime of the CiviPet platform, provided that the account remains in good standing.
What does “lifetime” mean?
It means for as long as CiviPet continues to operate the platform. It does not mean the lifetime of an individual person, animal or breeding business.
Is every application accepted?
No. Places may be limited and applications are reviewed. CiviPet may select a balanced group based on experience, animal types, location, upcoming litters and the testing needs of the BETA.
Which breeders can apply?
Breeders of dogs, cats, birds and rabbits may apply. Applicants must be at least 18, provide accurate details and comply with any licensing or legal requirements that apply to their activities.
Do I need to be a licensed breeder?
You must hold a licence where the law requires one. Requirements depend on the animal, location, scale and nature of your activities. CiviPet does not decide whether you need a licence; check with the relevant local authority or regulator.
What does CiviPet expect from me?
Use the platform meaningfully, manage genuine pets and litters, report problems, share constructive feedback and contribute appropriately to community questions when you have relevant experience. There is no employment relationship or fixed quota of unpaid work.
Do I need an active litter immediately?
An upcoming or active litter is useful for BETA testing, but CiviPet may also accept established breeders planning a litter later. State the expected timing in your application.
What can I manage in CiviPet?
Pet profiles and badges, parents and lineage, litters, growth logs, photos and videos, likes and comments, documents, weights, vets, reminders, adoption listings, messages, community participation, ownership handovers and linked CiviPet Tags.
Can I list pets or litters for adoption?
Yes, where the feature is available and the listing is lawful. You remain responsible for accurate information, required licence details, buyer checks, welfare standards and the transaction.
How does ownership handover work?
The breeder starts a secure transfer for one pet. The new owner accepts the invitation or one-time claim process. Control of the pet profile and linked CiviPet Tag then moves to the new owner, while the existing pet history remains connected.
Will the breeder remain visible after handover?
The breeder may remain recorded as the originating breeder and as part of the pet’s lineage and litter history. The breeder does not automatically retain access to the new owner’s private records.
Can someone claim a pet simply by scanning its tag?
No. The public QR code is designed to help a finder view a privacy-limited safety profile. It is not a secret ownership code and cannot by itself transfer or prove ownership.
What happens if a tagged pet is lost?
A finder can scan the QR tag with a phone and open the pet’s public safety profile in a browser. The owner controls the eligible public details and contact method shown. The tag improves the chance of contact but does not guarantee recovery.
Does a CiviPet Tag replace a microchip or legal identification tag?
No. It is an additional safety tool, not GPS, and does not replace compulsory microchipping, approved database registration or any legally required collar identification.
Who controls information shown to a finder?
After handover, the current owner controls the public safety-profile settings. CiviPet should reveal only the minimum information the owner selects for safe recovery.
Are CiviPet badges a guarantee?
No. A badge indicates the evidence or status checked for that particular badge. It is not a guarantee of quality, animal health, future conduct or legal compliance.
Will my information be used for marketing?
Essential messages about your application, account, security and handovers are part of providing the service. Optional marketing requires a separate choice and can be stopped at any time.
What happens if I stop breeding or become inactive?
You can contact CiviPet to close or archive your account. If there is no meaningful activity for 12 months, CiviPet may contact you and archive the account after notice. Subject to verification and the terms, a Pioneer can request reactivation without losing the free Pro entitlement.
Can CiviPet remove Pioneer status?
Only in accordance with the Programme Terms, for example after serious or repeated misuse, false verification information, unlawful activity or a material breach. Where appropriate, CiviPet will explain the issue and allow a reasonable opportunity to respond.
How do I apply?
Apply at civi.pet/pioneer-breeders/apply. We will acknowledge and review your application before any account is approved.
